The late King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV has been laid to rest at the Karambi Royal Tombs in Fort Portal City, marking the end of his 31-year reign as the Omukama of Tooro.
The late King was buried at about 5pm on Saturday, several hours later than the traditional burial time prescribed by Tooro Kingdom customs, which requires an Omukama to be laid to rest before 3pm.
The delay was reportedly linked to a disagreement between members of the Babiito clan and Queen Kemigisa.
The standoff was eventually resolved following intervention by President Yoweri Museveni through Deputy Speaker of Parliament Thomas Tayebwa and Minister Gen Henry Tumukunde.
Following the resolution, the newly installed Omukama, Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I, conducted the final burial ritual for his predecessor.
The funeral ceremony was held under heavy security, with the late King receiving a seven-gun salute as part of the official rites.
Access to the Karambi Royal Tombs was restricted during the burial, with members of the public barred from entering the site as the royal family and kingdom officials conducted the final rites.
King Oyo's burial formally brings his long reign to a close and ushers in a new chapter for the Tooro Kingdom under Omukama Edward Rukidi Nyabongo I.
