Two suspects have been arrested by joint security agencies in connection with the murder of John Bosco Ngire, a student at Gulu University.
Police Spokesperson ACP Kituuma Rusoke named the suspects as Gerald Omara, also known as Torach, and Ambrose Rom, alias Geng, both aged 18. Omara is a student at Good Samaritan Technical School, while both suspects reside in Agwee Cell, Agwee Ward, Pece-Laroo Division, Gulu City.
According to Rusoke, the suspects reportedly confessed during joint interrogations and led security personnel to the scene of the crime in Agwee Cell, Laroo-Pece Division.
Police detectives collected key evidence from the scene, recovering items that included the deceased's shoes and a hammer suspected to have been used in the fatal assault on his head.
Rusoke said the investigations would be concluded before the case file is forwarded to the RSA for review, after which the suspects would be presented in court.
Ngire's killing comes five months after another member of the university community, Christopher Nyeko, a laboratory technician at the institution's Health Centre, was murdered.
Nyeko was killed on May 22, 2026, at around 5:40 a.m. near St Peter's Catholic Church, a short distance from the university's main campus.
He was reportedly heading home after spending the night at a popular nightclub within the campus when he was attacked by unidentified assailants.
The latest incident adds to security concerns surrounding the university community as authorities continue investigations into the killing of Ngire.
