Gloria Grace Laker, an intern student at Gulu High Court, was remanded to prison after allegedly sharing a page from the criminal court register showing opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi is listed in a criminal case at the Gulu High Court.
This move has sparked controversy, with opposition supporters saying it contradicts earlier military assurances that they weren't searching for Kyagulanyi.
Laker, a Law Development Centre student, appeared before Grade One Magistrate Mirriam Amoro on Friday, facing charges of computer misuse and sharing unauthorized information.
Prosecutors claim she shared a register page on social media between March 6-9, 2026, showing Kyagulanyi's name in Case No. 140 of 2026 for "making false or malicious statements".
Her bail application was delayed due to the state attorney's absence, and she's been remanded until March 17, 2026.
Her Lawyer Henry Komakech Kilama questioned the motive behind Laker's photography and fingerprinting during investigations.
The leaked register page has sparked debate, suggesting Kyagulanyi might face charges if arrested, contradicting the Uganda People's Defence Forces' statements that they weren't searching for him.
Bobi Wine, has reacted strongly to the arrest of law intern Gloria Laker, calling it a move by the "criminal regime" to silence dissent.
In a statement, Wine questioned the government's motives, citing contradictions between their claims of not searching for him and their actions against his friends and associates.
"The same regime has been consistently saying they're not looking for me, even as they continue to raid my friends' homes, mount roadblocks on public roads, and maintain the siege at my home," he said.
Wine ended his statement with a message of defiance: "WE SHALL OVERCOME! #FreeUgandaNow"
