Police in Amuru District have launched investigations into the burning of a sugarcane plantation in Lakang Sub-county.

According to ASP Ongom David Mudong, the PRO for Aswa West, unknown persons set fire to the plantation belonging to Amuru Sugar Works Ltd in Akee Village, Kololo Parish, in the early hours of Sunday, July 19, 2026, at around 2:00 a.m.

The incident was reported by Omwony Patrick, the coordinator of Amuru Sugar Works Ltd, who told police that about one hectare of sugarcane was affected.

Upon receiving the report, detectives led by the District SOCO rushed to the scene. They found that plantation workers had already contained the fire using extinguishers, preventing it from spreading to neighboring farms.

ASP Mudong said no arrests have been made yet, but detectives have intensified inquiries to establish both the identity of the suspects and the motive behind the attack.

"Investigations are ongoing to establish the persons responsible for the offence. Clues are being gathered and very soon we shall have the perpetrators behind this criminal act arrested and prosecuted," he said.
