Rev. Fr Eric Uma has expressed frustration and disappointment in President Yoweri Museveni's government following violent clashes during Bobi Wine's campaign rally in Gulu City.
Speaking during Sunday Mass at Holy Rosary Parish in Gulu City, Fr. Uma described the Saturday incident as "a shame on your government" and urged the president to investigate and bring perpetrators to justice.
"What took place yesterday is a shame on your government, 'You must investigate those perpetrators of violence in Gulu City and bring them to justice. We want to live in peace.''
Fr. Uma condemned the brutality, stating that Acholi people are not NRM property, but God's, and should be free to listen to any message.
"Acholi are not the property of NRM they are the property of God. No one can stop us not to listen to another female, We don't want our city, our people to be used. We are not materials or property for someone discretion. We are created in the image and likeness of God.'' - He stresses.
He appealed to President Museveni to examine his leadership and the people he employs, suggesting they may be betraying him.
"You have been in power for 40 years is this how you rule the country, you must examine your leadership, the people you employ to promote your ideology they are betraying you if not you are betraying yourself." - he stated.
The priest emphasized that Acholi people shouldn't be used or treated as enemies, but rather respected as citizens.
"We are living as enemies. My brothers and sisters let's start changing our lives. Don't allow yourself to be used as if you are something useless. "God spirit is in you, you are not having animal spirit in you but you have God spirit and should help you to be with wisdom for refusing bad things to do good things. Good things are for everyone."
His remarks highlight the chaotic scenes on Saturday when groups of youth attacked traders, vandalised property, and assaulted some supporters of Kyagulanyi while security forces allegedly looked on.
