Acholitronix legend Mone Watmon Matthew disclosed that the late Ogwang Clipper greatly inspired and motivated him to play nanga seriously.
The 69 year old musician who is respected by many opened up about his musical inspiration while appearing on Radio Rupiny interview where he spoke about his childhood suffering and how he got himself into the music.
Watmon narrated that he started doing music at a tender age as soul relievers during his difficult time because he was being mistreated so much by his caretaker.
He said Ogwang has done a lot of great things to his life that have changed him and promised never to compare himself to the late that he is better than him.
"The person who inspired and motivated me so much was the late Ogwang Clipper which I promise him up to now even if he is no longer with us that I will never open my mouth to say that I'm better than him no no with me that can't happen though I hear children of nowadays saying they are better than me. Ogwang has done so many good things which have really touched and changed me."
He however revealed that when he met the legendary musician before his death, he went ahead and declared him as a qualified instrumentalist and he gave him a go-ahead to continue keeping the legacy of the music genre.
Watmon spoke of how his father would notice how he would be inheriting his granddaughter's shoes because he was also a great nanga player.
"My dad told me when I was a child that his father used to play the instrument so much though he died without me seeing him. When I could play the instrument, my dad could tell me that my child, you may replace my father's shoes.'' - he said.
Ogwang Clipper died in the year 2020 at the age of 84 after battling diabetes and hypertension.
He was one of the most respected and experienced nanga players in Northern Uganda.
