The NRM Chairperson for Amuru District, Mr. Wilfred Baguma, has reportedly handed himself in at Amuru Central Police Station.
According to ASP David Ongom Mudong, Mr. Baguma, who had been on the run over allegations of embezzling money meant to facilitate the upcoming LC1 elections, presented himself to police on Monday, 27th July 2026, in the morning.
He said Mr. Baguma is currently detained pending investigations.
Last week, Baguma's workmates, Ojera Geoffrey, the NRM Secretary for Finance, and Oyet Martin, the Administrative Secretary, were arrested by police while he, Baguma Wilfred, was at large.
Their arrests followed a tip-off from a whistleblower whose identity has been withheld for security reasons.
Police allege that on 22nd July 2026, while at the NRM offices, the three officials distributed less money than was allocated to Women Council leaders in Amuru District.
During a search, officers recovered UGX 1,405,000 from the suspects, which has been exhibited as evidence. The process of recovering the remaining money is ongoing.
Preliminary findings indicate that the NRM Party released UGX 60,000,000 to Amuru NRM officials for the election exercise. Out of UGX 6,320,000 that was meant for Women Council leaders’ allowances and transport refund, the officials allegedly diverted UGX 2,970,000.
