A 45-year-old woman from Mitooma has sparked mixed reactions after being arrested by police for allegedly forcing her 8-year-old stepson to swallow dozens of sewing needles.
Juliet Tushabeomwe was arrested for allegedly forcing her stepson to swallow 46 needles over a two-week period.
According to reports, the child is currently receiving specialized treatment at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital following surgery to remove the needles.
It is said the ordeal came to light after the boy suffered nearly two weeks of excruciating abdominal pain. His aunt, Eunice Birungi, then took him for a medical examination.
Social media users have condemned the act, saying she should be dealt with like Okello Christopher Onyum, the suspect in the murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Daycare Development Centre.
