Hon. Gilbert Olanya has issued a stern warning to Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, cautioning that the alleged intimidation and arrest of senior military officers could eventually turn influential generals against him.
Olanya, while addressing journalists, said Muhoozi should reconsider his approach to retired and serving generals, arguing that they remain powerful figures whose experience and influence could shape Uganda’s political future.
He warned that the continued targeting of generals could create instability, particularly if President Yoweri Museveni were no longer in power.
“The day anything may happen in this country, assuming President Yoweri Museveni is not there, automatically these generals who are being witch-hunted and arrested, they will unite,” Olanya said.
He cautioned that Muhoozi could face serious consequences if the generals decided to unite against him.
Olanya advised Muhoozi to embrace the retired military officers, seek their counsel and use their experience to strengthen his leadership.
According to the legislator, a leader who relies on intimidation risks isolating himself from people who could otherwise contribute to his success.
He also praised President Museveni for what he described as his ability to work with people across the political divide, contrasting the President’s approach with Muhoozi’s alleged tendency to intimidate others.
Olanya further called for the immediate release of Gen. Peter Elwelu, warning that the continued detention of the general could cost Muhoozi political support in Eastern and Northern Uganda.
He also alleged that other generals could be targeted for arrest, claiming that Gen. Otema Awany’s name had reportedly appeared on a purported list.
Olanya urged Muhoozi to prioritise dialogue and cooperation, warning that military power and personal wealth alone could not guarantee lasting political strength.
The allegations concerning the targeting of generals and the purported arrest list remain unverified.
