A police officer attached to Namukosi Police Station in Mityana District was stabbed to death Wednesday afternoon in Gulu City following a meeting with her boyfriend.

PC Akera Harriet, a female officer and Acholi by tribe, died at Lacor Hospital around 4:50 PM after she was stabbed in the back and shoulder at Library Cell, Bardege-Layibi Division.

The suspect, Apire Denis Brian, 26, a mobile money agent from Laliya Dwol Cell, was arrested after being rescued from an angry mob. Police say he and the deceased had been in a relationship since 2023.

According to the incident report filed at Gulu CPS under CRB 207/2026, Akera traveled from Mityana on 21 April to meet Apire in Gulu to discuss relationship misunderstandings. The two first met Tuesday morning at Flamingo Guest House before parting ways.

They met again around 2:10 PM at Library Cell where a quarrel broke out. Witnesses say Akera attempted to detain Apire and called for help, identifying him as a thief. Apire then pulled a knife from his waist and stabbed her.

Bystanders rushed Akera to Victory Health Centre and later to Lacor Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

Police recovered a sharp knife from the scene. Apire allegedly bought it from Chereleno Market around 2:00 PM the same day.

The case was first registered as attempted murder. D/IP Mugisha B John led a team to document the scene with SOCO. A postmortem is pending. Inquiries are ongoing.
