Police in the North Kyoga Region are investigating a mob killing that occurred at Amwoma sub-county police station in Dokolo district on Tuesday.

The incident happened on April 15, 2026, at 6:25 pm and was registered at Dokolo Central Police Station.

According to SP Jimmy Patrick Okema, North Kyoga Regional Police spokesperson, two officers from Abako sub-county police station in Alebtong — PC Dynabo and PC Akech Scovia — arrived at Amwoma station at around 6:00 pm on two motorcycles.

They were escorting a handcuffed suspect, Amenyo Solomon, 25, and were accompanied by two civilians believed to be complainants in a suspected cattle theft case.

SP Okema said the Officer in Charge of Amwoma station questioned their mission, noting no such case had been registered there.

As the officers spoke, a mob quickly gathered and surrounded the station, including the charge office. The crowd turned violent, pelting stones at police and demanding the suspect be handed over.

Police fired warning shots to disperse the mob, but the crowd was not deterred.

The mob overpowered the officers, seized the suspect, and beat him to death with stones, logs, and bricks at the scene.

The District Police Commander of Dokolo and other authorities were immediately notified. No arrests had been made at the time of reporting.

However, two suspects — Alenga and Ocen — have been identified and are being pursued, along with other unidentified individuals involved in the attack.

Police have registered a case of murder by mob. The body was recovered and taken to a hospital for postmortem.

Preliminary findings show the deceased had earlier been implicated in a cattle theft case reported at Abako police station by Opio Moses, 60, a resident of Adak village, Adagwor parish in Amwoma sub-county.

Amenyo had recorded a statement at Abako station earlier that day before being escorted to Amwoma by the two officers.

SP Okema condemned the mob action, calling it unlawful and a threat to the rule of law.

He however urged members of the public to always hand over suspects to relevant authorities for proper investigation and legal action.
