The Paramount Chief of Ker Kwaro Acholi, Rwot David Onen Acana II, has challenged Acholi leaders to remain accountable to the people they represent, reminding them that their mandate comes from the communities that entrusted them with leadership.
Speaking during the ongoing Acholi Parliamentary Group (APG) Regional Leaders’ Consultative Meeting in Gulu City on Saturday 19, 2026, Rwot Acana said effective leadership goes beyond listening to constituents.
He urged leaders to be available when their people call, respond to their concerns and consistently demonstrate accountability.
The Paramount Chief also called on both male and female parliamentarians to uphold responsibility in their personal and family lives.
He cautioned leaders against conduct that could undermine their families, saying such behaviour could also bring shame to the wider Acholi community.
Rwot Acana further urged Acholi leaders to speak boldly in defence of the interests of their people, saying they should not be afraid to stand by what they believe to be the truth, even when their positions conflict with political affiliations or personal interests.
He reminded the leaders that representing the Acholi people carries a responsibility to put the interests and wellbeing of the community at the centre of their leadership.
