Security personnel in the Aswa West River Region have recovered a firearm stolen from Lalogi Police Station in Omoro District, months after the suspected robbery mastermind was killed.

The AK47 rifle was discovered on Sunday at the former residence of Daniel Komakech in Barolemo Village, Kalumu Parish, Paicho Sub-county, Gulu District, together with two magazines and ammunition.

Komakech, whom police had linked to multiple aggravated robbery cases in the Acholi Sub-region, was shot dead on June 19, 2026, during an operation in which he reportedly resisted arrest.

The recovery followed a discovery by his brother, Richard Otim, who was clearing bushes around the property when he came across a white polythene bag concealed beneath a tree.

According to Patrick Jimmy Okema, the Acting Aswa West Police Public Relations Officer, Otim alerted security personnel, who subsequently visited the location and retrieved the firearm.

Police examination established that the recovered weapon was the same submachine gun stolen from Lalogi Police Station. Its registration number, UG POL 48014235-15938, was still visible despite signs of rust.

The firearm was reportedly stolen on May 11, 2026, from Police Constable Beatrice Awor, who was attacked by two unidentified men while sleeping at around 8:30 pm. The assailants escaped with the weapon, which was loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition.

Police investigations subsequently implicated Oscar Ojok, a resident of Lalogi Sub-county, as the alleged mastermind behind the theft. He was suspected of working alongside Komakech.

Ojok was arrested on June 19 alongside Vincent Opiro, a resident of Nwoya District. The two suspects have reportedly been charged with aggravated robbery and murder before the Army Court Martial and remanded.

The latest recovery is expected to provide further evidence in investigations into the theft of the police firearm and the alleged criminal network associated with Komakech.
