Police in Kitgum have detained a man over the death of his friend, following a quarrel about a missing roasted rat.
According to a police source, the suspect confronted the victim after noticing one of his roasted rats was gone. The exchange turned into a fight.
The victim, Omony, was injured and rushed to Orom Health Centre. He was declared dead on arrival.
The suspect was arrested and is being held at Kitgum Central Police Station. Omony’s body was taken to Namukora Health Centre IV for a postmortem.
Rat meat is a traditional staple and a high-protein delicacy. It is most commonly consumed in some parts of the Acholi sub-region.
