Gen Charles Otema Awany has on Sunday announced a commitment of 50 million Uganda shillings as a support to the Acholi Province team as the 5th edition is set to return.
Gen Otema who is also the patron of Acholi Province team lauded Kilak North MP Hon Gilbert Olanya for his exceptional support towards the football team since the tournament was launched in 2018.
He also encouraged Olanya to continue with his support towards the team as he has been doing so that this season's trophy return home.
He made the pledge on Sunday 20th October 2024 during fundraising for the province dubbed 5th Edition Grand Opening Of FUFA Drum 2024/25 at Pece Stadium where he slaughtered three bulls for all the football fans.
In January 2018, FUFA officially introduced a new Football tournament aimed at taking the beautiful game to the masses in Uganda and the first edition was won by Buganda province.
In 2019, Acholi Province emerged winners of the second edition after defeating Bukedi 5-3 on penalties to become the first team in Northern Uganda to be crowned winners.
In 2022, the West Nile Province team were crowned winners of the 3rd Edition of the FUFA Drum tournament and 2024, Lango Province were crowned champions of the 4th edition of the FUFA Drum.
