A 24-year-old woman identified as Ataro Gladys, a resident of Labworomo village in Lapainut East Parish, Omoro District, has been arrested by the Sexual and Gender-Based Violence Desk (SGBV) of Gulu for having unnatural sex.
The victim is Apiyo Dorcus, a 23-year-old resident of Layibi Kirombe, Layibi Bar dege division in Gulu City. The incident reportedly took place on May 28, 2023, at around 11:00 PM at Paradise Guest House in Gulu City.
It is alleged that Ataro visited Paradise Guest House and approached Apiyo requesting her assistance in finding another woman for sexual activities. However, when Apiyo reached out to her friend for company, the friend declined due to a prior commitment with her boyfriend.
Consequently, Apiyo decided to proceed alone, motivated by her need for the agreed-upon sum of 20,000/= (Ugandan Shillings). After the suspect purchased bottles of beer, the two individuals entered a room at the guest house.
However, some individuals alerted police officers on night patrol who responded to the situation and apprehending both individuals inside the room. A subsequent search of the premises led to the discovery of four artificial penises in the possession of Ataro Gladys. She was promptly charged in accordance with the findings.
ASP Ongom David Mudong the PRO Aswa River Region says that police detectives, accompanied by the scene of crime officer (SOCO), visited the crime scene, gathered statements from relevant witnesses and collected the four artificial penises as crucial evidence.
The suspect is currently awaiting a medical examination using Police Form 3 to assess the possibility of sexual assault, along with Police Form 24 to evaluate her mental state. The victim has also recorded a statement. Investigations into the incident are ongoing.
