Authorities in Gulu City have launched a crackdown on shisha smoking points after reports of rampant taking of substance among the youth.
According to David Ongom Mudong, the Aswa West Police spokesperson, the operation which is intelligence-led, has already resulted in the confiscation of over 20 shisha pots and their accessories from popular spots such as Password and Buganda Pub.
Mudong explained that the crackdown is aimed at controlling the supply of tobacco and its products to the population.
He also said that the smoking of shisha is illegal, and the operation is focused on proprietors and managers of venues facilitating the activity.
He warned that the operation would be continuous, urging dealers to cease promoting the illegal practice.
The police have reiterated their commitment to enforcing the law and discouraging practices deemed harmful to public health and safety.
