After 30 years, a Las Vegas jury has convicted 63-year-old former gang leader Duane “Keffe D” Davis of first-degree murder for orchestrating the 1996 drive-by shooting that killed Tupac Shakur.
A Clark County jury delivered the verdict on Monday, August 31, after less than three hours of deliberation, bringing an end to an 11-day trial.
Davis is the only person ever charged in connection with the case. Prosecutors said he orchestrated the shooting as revenge after Shakur and his entourage beat up his nephew, Orlando “Baby Lane” Anderson, in the lobby of the MGM Grand hours earlier on September 7, 1996.
Davis did not pull the trigger, but prosecutors argued that he obtained the gun and handed it to the shooter in the white Cadillac.
He was found guilty of first-degree murder with use of a deadly weapon and faces life in prison without parole when he is sentenced on October 13. Davis told the court he plans to appeal.
