Confidence is growing in Gulu City as preparations for the AFCON sports facilities gather pace, with officials now assuring the region that key venues will be ready before the end of 2026.

Denis Matsiko, the Site Engineer overseeing the construction works, has assured Members of Parliament from Acholi that Pece Stadium and the Gulu University pitch will be completed and ready for use before December 2026.

Speaking about the progress of the projects, Matsiko said construction teams are working to ensure that the facilities meet the required standards and are delivered within the set timeline.

The assurance has provided renewed confidence among the Acholi legislators, who have been closely following the development of the facilities and their potential to transform sports in the region.

Once completed, Pece Stadium and the Gulu University pitch are expected to provide modern sporting facilities for athletes and communities in Gulu and beyond, while supporting the city’s preparations to host AFCON-related activities.

With the December 2026 deadline drawing closer, attention now turns to the construction teams to deliver on the promise and bring the long-awaited sporting facilities into use.
