Speaker of Parliament Jacob Oboth has asked Ugandans to keep him in prayer, saying his new office is facing spiritual and political attacks.
Oboth revealed that unnamed individuals are allegedly using witchcraft and other schemes to undermine his leadership since he assumed the office.
“My new office has become the target of people using witchcraft and other schemes to undermine leadership,” Oboth said. He called on Ugandans, especially those of faith, to pray for him and for stability in Parliament.
The Speaker did not name the individuals behind the alleged schemes. His remarks come at a time when Parliament is handling several contentious bills and political debates.
Oboth’s appeal adds to a long history of Ugandan leaders publicly citing spiritual attacks. Critics argue such claims distract from governance, while supporters say faith and prayer are part of the country’s culture.
