The Omoro Woman Member of Parliament and Chairperson of the Acholi Parliamentary Group, Hon. Catherine Lamwaka, has delivered 20 laptop computers to four government-aided secondary schools in the district.
The beneficiary schools are Onono Memorial Secondary School, Koro Secondary School, Ongako Secondary School and St. Thomas More Secondary School, with each school receiving five laptops.
The laptops were secured following Lamwaka’s earlier engagement with the Minister of ICT, whom she lobbied to support schools in Omoro with computers. The Minister responded positively to the request.
Speaking during the handover, Lamwaka said the initiative is intended to strengthen ICT skills among students in remote and underserved communities, while giving learners greater access to digital education and technology.
“I urge you to make good use of these computers and catch up with the world, knowing that ICT skills are among the most important and highly demanded skills today,” Lamwaka said.
She added that the computers were specifically allocated to government-aided schools, where they will be installed and used to support computer studies and digital learning.
Receiving the laptops on behalf of the beneficiary schools, the Head Teacher of Onono Memorial Secondary School applauded Hon. Lamwaka for the initiative and pledged that the school administrations would jealously guard and protect the government-provided equipment.
The commitment comes against the backdrop of previous incidents in which the school's computer laboratory was reportedly broken into and some laboratory assets vandalised.
The school administration assured stakeholders that such incidents would not happen again and that the newly delivered computers would be properly secured for the benefit of students.
