Lakubukubu musician Big 4 By 4 has called on artists in the Acholi music industry to put aside jealousy, selfishness and personal differences in order to promote the region’s music on a bigger international stage.
In a message to fellow artists, Lakubukubu credited earlier generations of Acholi musicians including Rasta Cobra, Tempra Omona, Bosmic Otim, Jahria Okwera, Ob Olweny, Obol Mike and Orchard Raymond for laying the foundation that has helped expose Acholi music to audiences beyond the region.
"Acholi music has been exposed to the world because of the great work done by our elder brothers and sisters who came before us — Rasta Cobra, Tempra Omona, Bosmic Otim, Jahria Okwera, Ob Olweny, Obol Mike, Orchard Raimond, and many others. They sacrificed a lot and laid the foundation for the music we are doing today. We give them the credit and respect they deserve." ???? He posted.
He described the pioneers as artists who sacrificed greatly for the industry and urged the current generation to honour their contribution by building on the foundation they created.
Lakubukubu said advances in technology and increased global connectivity have given today’s musicians an even greater opportunity to take Acholi music to the world.
"But now, with technology changing and the world becoming more connected, I believe the current generation can do even more. We should not allow jealousy, selfishness, or personal differences to hold our music back." He stated.
He pointed to the support shown when Eddy Wizzy releases music and Pato Loverboy shares it as an example of the kind of collaboration he believes the industry needs.
"For example, when Eddy Wizzy releases a song and Pato Loverboy shares it, that is the spirit we need. We are already exposed to the world — we only need a few people to come together and push our music even further." - Big 4 By 4 continued.
According to Lakubukubu, Acholi music has already gained international exposure, but greater cooperation among artists could help push it even further.
He urged musicians to resolve internal disagreements and support one another rather than allowing personal differences to affect the growth of the industry.
"Let’s put jealousy and selfishness aside and find ways to resolve our internal differences. If we support one another, Acholi music will continue to live and reach generations to come." - he strongly condemned.
“Unity is our strength. Our music is our legacy. Let’s protect it.” His message comes as a call for stronger solidarity within the Acholi music community, with the artist emphasizing that collective support could help preserve the region’s musical heritage while opening doors for future generations.
