The High Court in Agago has ordered former Aruu County MP Samuel Odonga-Otto to pay more than 22 million shillings to MP Christopher Komakech and the Electoral Commission.
This follows a long election dispute from the 2021 polls. Deputy Registrar Betty Ajok delivered the ruling yesterday.
Komakech’s lawyer Samuel Okeny says the money covers 15 million in legal fees and 7 million for transport. Odonga-Otto asked the court for easy payment terms.
The lawyer says if he fails to pay, they will go back to court by May 1st to enforce the order.
The case started after Komakech beat Odonga-Otto in 2021 with over 9,000 votes. Odonga-Otto challenged the win, saying Komakech had not resigned from Butabika Hospital.
The High Court first nullified Komakech’s win, but the Court of Appeal later reinstated him and awarded costs.
