Uganda People's Congress (UPC) Party President Jimmy Akena Obote has told Gen Muhoozi to "stop this nonsense" while addressing both opposition MPs and civil society at presentation of opposition alternative budget at parliament on April 7,2026.
Akena condemned the recent election, saying it wasn't free and fair, and criticized the abuse of power. "I can not even call it an election. It had some rudimentary elements of an election but an election must be free and fair for an election to count... We have those who are so drunk with power that they're ready to step on everybody's right," Akena said.
He emphasized the need to protect Ugandan women, citing the trauma caused by violence and intimidation. "What I witnessed and heard something in Barbie's cries took me back to my mother in 1971... The trauma which many people don't see is when the cameras go, the soldiers remain. They're in your house, they're in your face."
Akena recounted his own experience of having armed personnel in his house, saying, "I had armed people in my house. I only had my two daughters in my house, the place guarded... They're intimidating, threatening our women, and children."
Addressing CDF Gen Muhoozi, Akena said, "I as Jimmy Akena, am going on record and say stop this nonsense. Uganda for all of us is our country. We need to have the opportunity to present what we believe our country can be."
Akena added, "I have no objections for Muhoozi thinking he can replace his father, all power to him, but in that dream he should not stop Akena son of Obote from pursuing a similar dream."
