Hon Norbert Mao stated that he and Rt Hon Speaker Anita Annet Among maintain communication despite their political differences.
Mao urged fellow legislators to clean up their politics and abandon tactical maneuvering, saying he doesn't engage in dirty politics.
"Let's call for a political truce in this country. Let's clean up our politics and stop playing games. I don't play dirty," Mao said during Jacob Oulanyah's father Mzee Nathan Okori's burial in Lalogi, Omoro District on Tuesday.
He thanked the Speaker and her team, saying, "We appreciate the parliament, Speaker, and Deputy Speaker's commitment to support this family."
Mao revealed that upon learning of Mzee Okori's passing on March 20, 2026, at St Mary's Hospital Lacor, he immediately informed the Speaker. "When I got the news, I called her first," he said.
Addressing MPs, Mao added, "Some of you may think we don't communicate, but we do. If Iranians and Americans can talk, why can't we? We can disagree yet remain part of Uganda."
Mao, who delivered Shs 15 million from President Museveni to the bereaved family, said the death has united them, urging MPs to consider the late Jacob Oulanyah's their home.
"This death has brought us together. To the MPs, this is home – the home of your leader."
