A 19-year-old student, Miriam Acam, died after she was stabbed on Saturday evening in Ocaapa Central Ward, Ocaapa Town Council, police said.
The incident happened at about 7:30 p.m. Acam, a student at Serere Senior Secondary School, had reportedly gone to visit her boyfriend, Julius Lazarus Otim, 23, a chapati vendor living in Ocaapa Town Council.
According to preliminary police reports, Acam and Otim were inside a locked room when a fight broke out. Witnesses said the two were seen together in Otim’s room around 7:00 p.m.
Neighbors raised an alarm shortly after. Residents who responded found Acam collapsing at the doorway, where she died almost instantly.
South Kyoga Regional Police Spokesperson ASP Stephen Mukombe confirmed the case has been registered at Serere Police Station as suspected murder by stabbing.
Police secured the scene, now under the command of the Serere District Police Commander. A knife suspected to have been used in the attack was recovered.
The suspect, Otim, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment under police guard. Investigations are ongoing.
