The government of Uganda has given three months to the Acholi and Madi people living in Apaa land to leave the area in less than four months after being compensated.
The affected residents who acquired national identitication card in Apaa between the year 2013 and 2014 to be compensated with resettlement package of 10 million shillings, 20 bags of cement, and 20 iron sheets.
''For those who acquired national identitication in Apaa between the year 2013 and 2014, do you remember that decision you made here. The resettlement package of 10 million shillings, 20 bags of cement, and 20 iron sheets will be given to each household in the reserve to enable them moved and settle else where." - Prime Minister, Robinah Nabbanja said.
Nabbanja added that for the people without National Identification Card but registered in Apaa each will be given 2 million shillings.
"For those without national identity card registered in Apaa each will be given 2 million shillings.'' she added.
On Wednesday, 15, February, 2023, the Prime Minister, RT Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, was in Adjumani and Amuru Districts to re-emphasize cabinet decisions taken in regard to this land among include compensation, which was rejected by some Acholi leaders. The Apaa land has been a centre of controversy with both the Madi from Adjumani and the Acholi from Amuru claiming ownership.
According to the Prime Minister, if May 16th, 2023, comes and find those residents still there, they shall forcefully evict them.
