Nyege Nyege lovers across the globe have every reason to smile after authorities in Uganda on Wednesday, September 7, 2022, gave a green light for the festival to go on as planned.
In a meeting with stakeholders on Wednesday at her office, Nabbanja agreed with the event's organizers that the festival will go on but with strict guidelines.
The news comes a day after Parliament blocked the annual social event scheduled to take place from September 15 to 18, in Jinja claiming it promotes sexual immorality.
During a plenary sitting on Tuesday, Speaker of the House Anita Among said the House had resolved to ban the event to safeguard the morality of the country.
"We are talking about the morality of this country we are talking about our children. You are trying to promote tourism at the expense of our children? We are not going to allow this function to take place," she declared.
The fun-filled event was to be held on the banks of the Nile at Itanda Falls with over 8,000 foreigners having booked tickets.
According to the Nyege Nyege festival’s organisers, their event focuses on electronic music scenes across Africa, as well as sounds from the global diaspora and others.
