The government has on Tuesday bounced back to drawing board after late Speaker Jacob Oulanyah's burial budget causing a lot of mix reactions on social media.
This made the burial expenses to be slashed from 2.5 billion shillings to 1.8 billion shillings.
Minister if State for planning, Amos Lugolobi on Tuesday laid on floor of parliament a statement on statutory revision of the budget of 104 for FY 2021/22 by Shs 1.8bn.
According to Lugolobi, the fund will be used to meet all the costs during the burial of the former speaker burial.
The parliamentary pension (amendment) act requires the 30% of the gross annual salary of the speaker or deputy speaker who dies in the office shall be used towards the funeral expenses.
According to Milly Babalanda, Minister for presidency, Oulanyah's body will arrive at Entebbe International Airport on Friday, April 1st 2022 at 2pm aboard Ethiopian Airlines. On Sunday 3rd and Monday 4th April. the body will lie at his home of the speaker in Muyenga where friends and well wishers will pay their last respects.
On Tuesday, 5th April 2022, the body will be moved to parliament where the Rt Hon Speaker will lead the Members of Parliament to pay their final respects. The body will then spend night in the parliament. On Wednesday 6th April 2022, the body will be taken to Kololo ceremonial grounds for a state funeral before it's airlifted to Lalogi in Omoro District.
Oulanyah's body will be laid to rest on Friday, 8th April 2022, the day will be observed as public holiday as declared by President Museveni.
