The management of 102 Mega FM is currently facing backlash online over what many described as a “simple” condolence message for their late former legendary presenter, Lacambel Wod Ogena.

Mega FM announced his death on its official Facebook page. A journalist known as Okano Emar then screenshot the condolence message and shared it on his account. The post did not sit well with fans of the late presenter and followers of the prominent radio station.

This is the radio station’s post that sparked mixed reactions:
With a heavy heart, Mega FM announces the passing of our beloved legend, Lacambel Wod Ogena.

The voice that touched thousands, the man who brought joy to every home in Acholiland — Lacambel Wod Ogena has left us today.

During the dark days of the LRA insurgency in Northern Uganda, Lacambel Wod Ogena used his voice through Dwog Cen Paco as a bridge to peace — calling rebel sons and daughters to lay down their guns and come back home through the airwaves of Mega FM. His voice was more than radio. It was family. It was comfort. It was home. Rest well, our legend. Your voice will echo in our hearts forever. Rest in perfect peace. Amen.

It’s alleged that Mega FM, under manager Atek’s tenure, did not appreciate or care for Lacambel while he was alive and battling illness.

According to reports, staff were even prohibited from visiting and supporting him while he was critically ill and struggling financially.

Lacambel Wod Ogena, whose real name was John Oryem Baptist, played a powerful role in peace-building during the LRA insurgency through the “Dwog Cen Paco” radio program on 102 Mega FM across Northern Uganda. He passed away on Sunday, May 31, 2026, at St Mary’s Hospital Lacor where he had been admitted for treatment.

Below are some of the reactions:
Ojimo James lamented: “They should have written ‘our Founding Father’... The death of Lacambel will change many things... He has not died in vain.”

Rubangakene Joky stated: “Mega FM with hypocrisy at its best. The late Lacambel’s contract, just like other staff, was allegedly terminated without following human resource policy. It’s now that Mega FM management feels they should show up that they care so much about the late Wod Ogena. I question this kind of hypocrisy from a station suffering from institutional capture by an individual.”

Hopih Steven Norrish: “Workplace bosses neglected him like an elephant in the bush, yet he contributed a lot to the peace process of convincing some of the warlords to come back home, and his contribution is national.”

Okot Pa Ochan reacted: “Megafm Gulu owek bwol obedi, you guys are real wolves in sheep’s clothing. Lacambel has been in the hospital all this time. Did you even talk about him in any of your programs so that people get to know? Wun luming matek.”

Onen Fred stated: “Radio Mega FM wrote a simple condolence message: ‘rest in peace legend’. Not even saying former staff.”

Female songstress Jenneth Prischa also posted: ''The entire team failed to make a quick recovery, and none of them visited him. It's a surreal world indeed. We can expect their rest in peace sentiments soon ?????????? rest in peace @LACAMBELL WOD OGENA, ?????????????????????.
