The security personnel have confirmed the arrest of several people who were apprehended in connection with planned protests against the three days regional parliamentary sitting in Gulu City.

The development was confirmed by the Aswa West Regional Spokesperson David Ongom Mudong during the press briefing on Monday.

The police spokesman said the arrested persons are National Unity Platform (NUP) party mobilizer Mr Brian Mungu Jakisa and Sabastian Ogoni, the interim regional coordinator, among others.

According to Mudong, disruptive operations targeting groups of persons planning criminals activities are being done.

"Security is aware of the planned demonstration being done through social media mass mobilization intended to interrupt the forthcoming sitting.'' - Mr Mudong lamented.

He also cautioned a section of Acholi politicians against spreading misleading messages to the public against the parliamentary sitting and planning to import violence from other regions into the city.

The regional parliamentary sitting will have its sessions starting 28th August 2024 at Kaunda grounds, Green Valley Cell, Kanyagoga Ward, Bardege Layibi City Division, Gulu City.
