Uganda's celebrated long distance runner, Joshua Cheptegei has won yet again a gold medal in the men's 10,000m race at the 2024 Paris Olympics last night.
He has set a new Olympic World Record in the 10,000m race with a time of 24:43.14 to win his first Olympics gold medal.
Ethiopia’s Berihu Aregawi settled for silver, crossing the finish line in 26:43.44.
Grant Fisher of the United States of America held off Mohammed Ahmed of Canada for bronze in a Season Best 26:43.46.
This was Cheptegei's season opener on the track this season his only race at this distance was a 26:53 run in a cross-country road race earlier this season.
The win earned Cheptegei $50,000 a new prize for Olympic track this year and a chance to ring the bell at the end of the stadium that is reserved only for newly crowned Olympic champions.
Cheptegei adds this to the silver medal he won in Tokyo and the world titles he took in 2019, 2022 and 2023.
