The deadly trigger pull that claimed four lives at Kiboga Prison has now come back to haunt warder Moses Anguyo, with the High Court sentencing him to death for the shocking killings.

Anguyo pleaded guilty to murdering Assistant Superintendent Catherine Hope, Principal Officer Bright Akishuri, Sarah Ayebare and her 18-month-old son, Salson Niwagaba, in the February 23 shooting.

The court also convicted him of aggravated robbery and threatening violence after he admitted to the charges. The additional sentences will run concurrently.

In handing down the death sentence, the judge stressed the enormity of the crimes and the deep betrayal of trust by an officer entrusted with protecting lives and maintaining order behind prison walls.

Although the court took into account Anguyo’s remorse and guilty plea, they could not erase the devastating loss suffered by the victims’ families.
The ruling also ordered compensation for stolen property, including an Arsenal jersey.
