The territorial police in Otuke District are investigating the circumstances and the possible recovery of gun No. 563617800, which was forcefully taken away from No. 47852 PC Oculi Paul on the night of September 16th and 17th, 2023, while he was on guard duty.

This follows a report that was registered with the police by Okomo Dorcus, a 37-year-old secretary to the Electoral Commission in Otuke District.

It’s alleged that at an unknown time during the night between September 16th and 17th, 2023, unidentified thugs attacked and injured Police Constable Oculi Paul at his post at the Electoral Commission offices in Otuke District.

He was struck by a blunt object on the right side of his head, rendering him unconscious with deep injuries, and his gun was subsequently taken.

A team of police officers led by the DPC Otuke immediately rushed to the scene upon receiving this information. They cordoned off the area, transported the victim to Orum Health Center IV for treatment, and initiated an investigation.

According to statements issued by the North Kyoga police PRO, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema, statements have been recorded from officials of the Electoral Commission and others. Canine services were introduced at the scene to support the investigation.

No. 50658 CPL Okengo Samuel, who was deployed with PC Oculi Paul, has been detained to assist with the investigation and has been charged with neglect of duty. A team from the flying squad has also been dispatched to support the territorial command in tracking down the suspects as they investigate the motives of the assailants.

“We appeal to members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious persons with illegal possession of a gun to the police for arrest and possible prosecution before the court of Apaa,” said Okema.
