Shock As Two Children Reportedly Killed In Gulu Bomb Blast

At least two siblings were reportedly killed, while two others are critically injuried in a bomb blast in Bul Kur B village in Omel Sub County, Gulu District on Wednesday

It is said that an unexploded ordnance detonated on them while playing with it.
 
According to source, the incident happened at around 1:30pm.

The deceased have been identified as Morris Opiyo, aged 15, and his younger brother Ronald Rubangakene, aged, 12.

The bomb explosion also left two other children who are related to the two deceased children injured. They include Derrick Okello, aged 13, a brother to the deceased children and one identified only as Lubangakene, aged, 12 and a nephew to the deceased children.

According to reports, the four found the unexploded ordinance while harvesting brooms in a nearby bush and were playing with it when it exploded.

The injured, Okello and Lubangakene, have both been rushed to Gulu Regional Referral Hospital for treatment.

The four are pupils of Bulkur primary school and had just been sent home because of none payment of school fees when tragedy struck them.

According to Lillian Arach, the area councilor 3 Bulkur parish, who rushed to the scene says the children had been hitting the explosive on the road when it exploded.

Devices believed to have been left behind during the Lord’s Resistance Army –LRA insurgency in Northern Uganda have continued to ravage the residents.
