On Thursday, 7 July 2026, Gulu City hosted its first-ever meeting of Mayors from Uganda’s 10 cities. The gathering, organized by the Uganda Association of Urban Authorities, UAAU, brought city leaders together to chart a common path for urban development.

NRM Secretary General Richard Todwong graced the event as Chief Guest and officiated the meeting.

In his address, he challenged the mayors to prioritize service delivery and good governance if Uganda’s cities are to meet growing population demands.

Host Mayor His Worship Labeja Julius Acire welcomed his colleagues to Gulu with warm remarks. He stressed that collaboration and collective action will be key to unlocking sustainable urban growth and improving citizens’ well-being.

“The challenges we face in our cities are similar. If we work together, we can advance Uganda’s urban development agenda faster,” Acire said.

The Commander of the 4th Infantry Division also attended, alongside other distinguished leaders and development partners. Their presence underlined the meeting’s focus on security and infrastructure as pillars of urban growth.

The inaugural session is being hailed as a milestone for city-to-city cooperation. With all 10 city mayors at the table, the forum sets the stage for joint solutions on service delivery, planning, and economic transformation across Uganda’s urban centers.
