Christopher Okello Onyum, the 39-year-old suspect in the brutal murder of four toddlers at Ggaba Early Childhood Development Centre, has been committed to the High Court for trial.
A medical report has deemed him fit to stand trial, despite his history of mental illness.
Onyum, who posed as a parent seeking admission, allegedly stabbed the children - Eteku Gideon, Keisha Agenoroth, Sseruynage Ignatius, and Odeke Rayan - at the daycare centre on April 2, 2026. He was arrested at the scene and has been in custody since.
During his court appearance, it was revealed that Onyum was found with two American passports, two mobile phones, two laptops, a US driving permit, a medical sanity report, and a certificate of good conduct. His defence team had argued that he had a history of mental illness, but the medical report contradicts this claim.
The prosecution alleges that Onyum's actions were premeditated, citing his visits to the daycare centre prior to the attack and his possession of padlocks used to secure the premises. The trial will determine his guilt and potential sentence.
