FDC Secretary General Nandala Mafabi has raised concern over the rise of armed money lenders operating in villages across the country.
Addressing the public, Mafabi said every village now has a money lender, and most of them come from the Western region.
"They give people money in the morning, and you must pay back in the evening," he said. "They move with sticks, they move with guns. Who gave them these guns? We don’t know."
Mafabi’s remarks point to growing fears about debt-related intimidation in rural communities, where borrowers reportedly face threats and violence if they fail to repay on time.
