Residents of Agung village in Gulu District have taken law into their own hands, chopping and burning to death a habitual goat thief.
The incident occurred after the suspect was caught and accused of being part of a gang involved in a rampant livestock theft in the area.
The suspect, identified only as Derrick, was reportedly riding his motorcycle with a stolen goat, was attacked by angry mob and his motorcycle was also set ablaze. The incident happened on Thursday early morning, October 9, 2025.
The local discovered omo mixed with water, mirra and a bottle of chief waragi in the suspect's pockets which he uses during his act.
Local residents have expressed frustration over the increasing cases of livestocks theft in the area, particularly during the night.
They accused thieves of being unemployed youth who resort to stealing to make a living.
The community has called on local leaders and security forces to intervene and address the rising crime rates in the area. They urged authorities to take decisive action to curb the thefts and restore safety in the community.
