Godfrey Opio is a world-renowned folk musician, multi-instrumentalist, music educator, dance instructor, songwriter, choreographer, and powerful vocalist. He was born and raised in the Northern part of Uganda.
At the age of 9, Opio's music career was ignited as a way to cope with the tragic loss of his father, Andrew Kiwel, who was a victim of the Kony Rebels in Northern Uganda. Music became his tool for healing and consoling his friends, relatives, and the community.
Following the musical footsteps of his brothers Otim, Obina, and Okema, Opio rose as the star musician of his village, Barotiba. Through his work with Kika Troupe, M-LISADA Organization, and the World Bridge Foundation NC, he mastered various African instruments like the Nanga, Adungu, Kalimba, Tube Fido, Omulele, and drums. He later invented a 24-stringed instrument called "COMBO."
In 2023, Opio became the Artistic Director of the "Dance of Hope" US Tour, which took him to over 17 states, where he conducted music education workshops and performed in festivals, art centers, theaters, schools, and communities. His 2024 music album, "WAR CHILD," provided positive solutions to the effects of war through his heartfelt music.
Godfrey Opio’s music invites audiences to experience more than just melodies—it’s about connecting with something greater, transcending time and place. Join Opio on this journey, and discover the beauty of storytelling through music.
