The initiators of Roco Paco ki Doro Paco initiative who have organized for the Acholi convocation dubbed “Gure me Pongdwongo” which is under way in Pongdwongo, Laroo-Pece division in Gulu city has warned the participants that the convocation is not for politicking nor for accomplishment of their religious mission.
However, it is to find out the course and the causes of the catastrophic situation that has led to the collapse of the Acholi community.
The participants are expected to “kiko lok” literally mean critically discussing the issues that affect the communities and enacting the possible ways to help Acholi people regain lost glory and strength.
His lordship, Alfonse Owiny Dollo Chigamoyi, the Chairperson for Roco Paco, Doro Paco initiative while addressing the participants yesterday at Pongdwong in his opening remarks warns that anyone who intend to push for his or her political agenda at the “Gure me Pongdwong” should refrains saying the catastrophic situation in Acholi is affecting everyone being a political or religious affiliation.
He noted that almost everyone in Acholi is engaging in doing abominable things regardless of their political and religious affiliation so to wrestle the problem everyone should play a role.
Owiny Dollo reveals to the participant that he was given a one-day console by an elderly woman in Agago that the problem in Acholi can be reversible, the word he says has motivated him to push for the restoration of the Acholi community.
Owiny Dollo attributed some problems in Acholi to laziness saying people's mindset is corrupted and they still believe in free things.
He rallies the clan leader in Acholi to draft a by-law that will force their subjects to work hard.
On the other hand, Dr. Olara Otunnu the vice chairperson of Roco Paco ki Doro Paco initiative in his remarks to the participants called for restoration of Acholi culture.
He noted that he has traversed the whole world and most of the strong nations like Japan and India have developed because they are rooted in their culture.
The three-days Pan-Acholi convocation which started on 27th will climax on 29th December 2023 is being organized under the theme “Dyere ki Ribe pi Laro Paco”, literally means, “sacrifice and unity for the restoration of Acholi” with a slogan “Kati woko! Ka pe in Ci anga” plainly means come out! If not you, who should?
At least a total of 757 participants were present on the first day of the meeting according to the attendance list seen by favor fm. However, initially the convocation was estimated to host a total of 1,500 people’s representatives from the entire Acholi sub region.
These participants include selected clan’s leaders, youth’s representatives, cultural chiefs, women leaders, political heads among other categories.
