A renowned Lira city businessman identified as Haji Joe Ogwang was arrested following the tragic death of his son, Aaron Okello after he allegedly shot him for demanding money from him.
The incident unfolded when a dispute over money escalated, resulting in a fatal confrontation between the father and son Ogwang, aged 57, turned himself into the authorities, and the firearm, along with ammunition, was recovered by the police.
It is alleged that the suspect who is a resident of Ireda Estate in Lira City East Division had a heated argument with his son at Tipper stage in Kamuswahili Cell on Tuesday over money.
Okello was rushed to Lira Medical Center but was pronounced dead upon arrival. Ogwang voluntarily surrendered to the Lira-City central police station.
Jimmy Patrick Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson, revealed preliminary findings indicating that Okello was a UPDF deserter with a history of violence.
“The killer gun has been recovered, with five rounds of ammunition and exhibited. We are yet to ascertain whether the suspect acquired the pistol legally or not as further investigations continue,” Patrick Jimmy Okema, the North Kyoga Police Spokesperson,
Additionally, a Pistol No UG IND 99702870, along with 5 rounds of ammunition, was recovered.
The deceased’s body is lying at Lira Regional Referral Hospital’s mortuary pending a postmortem examination.
