On Thursday, September 28, 2023, the government of Uganda repatriated the final batch of 61 ex-Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) rebels and their families to Uganda from the Central African Republic (CAR).
The ex-rebels had previously established camps in the Mboira and Bangssou areas of the CAR. With this batch, the total number of repatriated ex-LRA fighters and their families has reached 138. The previous repatriations included 61 individuals in July and 16 in August.
The returnees were received at Entebbe International Airport by Lt Gen Charles Okiror, the commander of the Air Forces, and Kilak North MP Anthony Akol, who represented the Acholi Sub-region legislators.
The group consisted of 15 men, including 14 Ugandans, one South Sudanese, and one Congolese. Additionally, there were 14 women, including 11 Congolese nationals, who were accompanied by 32 children, including a newborn baby. The event was attended by Security Minister Jim Muhwezi and Justice Minister Norbert Mao.
