Wednesday 13th July marked 8 years since the late hip hop legend Lumix Da Don passed away.
On Saturday 15th, his friends, family and artists held a memorial concert at Da Covenant Gulu. A number of notable celebrities including Judas Rapknowledge, Smokie Allan, Pato Loverboy, Nob Dizzo, Laxzy Mover, Sherry Princess, Eddy Wizzy, CMB, Lil Roy, 2pee, Mixola, Ken Lee, Tito Okello among others performed the concert.
Speaking to the audience, Ms. Josca Ongaba, the mother of the late Lumix Da Don, said hip hop will continue to live in the Acholi land despite her son dismissed 8 years back.
Ms. Ongaba expressed that she was shocked seeing a lawyer going to her place thinking there is something wrong.
"I was seriously broken down when I saw Tony Kitara at my house not knowing he was looking for Lumix Da Don.
I really want to thank Tony Kitara.''
She said that her late son fought a serious fight to introduce hip hop music in Acholi by then when aguma, dancehall and reggae music were on form.
"Hip hop entering Acholi land wasn't easy, Lumix introduced it by force that's why he sang frontline to fight lakubukubu, dancehall, aguma saying until hip hop is known in Acholi and it's only God who knows because all his songs carries strong meaning and messages." She concluded.
She however called unity among Northern Uganda's musicians.
His music became the soundtrack of our lives, accompanying us through moment of joy and sorrow, celebration and reflection. It provided a source of comfort during difficult times.
His talent and passion is undeniable as he poured his heart and soul into every note and lyrics. He inspired and natured many in the music game. May his soul continue resting in eternal peace.
