At least 15 people have been confirmed dead after a taxi they were travelling in was involved in an accident at a place called Musita Lumino in Mayuge District.
It is reported that the taxi reg. No UBD 085A knocked a stationary sugarcane truck parked at the roadside at exactly 5 am while heading to Kampala and it is said to have carried 17 passengers.
According to the Busoga East Police Spokesperson Mr James Mubi, the taxi which was speeding, knocked a stationary Tata truck that was carrying sugarcane, at about 5 am.
However, he said two passengers; a woman and a toddler, who sustained grave injuries, have been taken to Iganga Hospital.
"Sugarcane trucks are not supposed to be parked on the highway because they obstruct other road users, which causes accidents," Mr Mubi said.
