With just only six days left to the National general elections, the National Unity Platform (NUP) flagbearer for the Bardege-Layibi MP race, Hon Akera Robinson, has withdrawn and defected to the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party.

Hon Akera Robinson, who has officially joined the ruling party after stepping down from the race, was welcomed by the Presidential Coordinator in charge of Greater North, Mr. Odoch Bosco Olak.

His withdrawal is yet another big blow to the National Unity Platform party ahead of the January 15th general elections.

The party has witnessed numerous members stepping down from their constituency races, which they described as bribery.

Parliamentary candidates across the country have until January 13th to conclude their campaigns, ahead of the general elections scheduled for January 15, 2026.
