A Uganda People's Defence Forces officer shot himself dead after shooting and killing his estranged lover in Agago district on Thursday night.
The deceased has been identified as Private Adwel John, a resident of TeKato village, Lira Kato sub-county and Akello Florence, 25, a resident of Jengkwot Village.
The shooting occurred on Thursday night at exactly 9:00.pm when John travelled with a motorcycle to his entragled wife village and shoot her instantly, injuring his two sisters in law, Amolo Miriam,16, and Lawino Esther,15, who are currently receiving treatment at Kalongo Hospital for gunshot injuries before shooting himself.
The couple, who had recently separated, leave behind two young children. In the wake of the tragedy, authorities have launched a full investigation.
Four individuals including two civilians and two soldiers have been arrested to assist with ongoing inquiries into the theft of the firearm and the sequence of events leading to the deaths.
