Northern Uganda's biggest and most anxiously anticipated music festival, 'the Open Mic Festival' dubbed 'Family Edition', will take place on Saturday 4th at Acholi Inn Hotel Gardens after nearly two years of absentia because of a country-wide lockdown by the government of Uganda to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. The June 2022 edition brings extra activities aimed at delivering fresh experiences and a massive lineup of local and national entertainers.
A key aim of The Open Mic Festival is to unite and showcase talent from the Northern and West Nile regions of Uganda, bringing together artists from these areas.
According to one organizer of the festival, the June edition will avail platforms for revellers to go mainstream and tap into international spaces.
Opolacen, the main organizer of the Open Mic Festival, has promised to offer revellers a more comfortable yet equally memorable experience. For the first time in the history of the bi-annual yearly festival, there will be a VIP and VVIP solitary experience.
The first edition of 2022 has also gathered a lot of attention because of a shift and emphasis on entertainment meant for children.
This has split the festival into two; the daytime show primarily for children and the nighttime for adults. Children will enjoy the thrill of face painting and industry-standard bouncing castles, the first of their kind in Gulu.
A host of entertainers, including local acts such as Pato Loverboy, Oiyo Twongweno, DJ Dranix, MC Omiyo, BeePee, Adong, DJ Richie, Hip Hop sensation Judas Rap Knowledge, Chameroon, Destiny Music, Quincy, MC Wang Jok to national brands such as Rwanda born DJ Alisha, Salvador and Apio Moro, who returns will grace the stage.
This edition of the Open Mic Festival is supported by Stanbic Bank Uganda, Coca Cola, Kadanke, Betternet, Owaraga, Nasho Computers & Tusker Lite.
