The people of the republic of Uganda have been denied the rights to view the remains of the late Speaker of Parliament RT Hon Jacob Oulanyah.
This comes after a section of Members of Parliament requested the newly elected speaker of parliament Anita Annet Among on Tuesday 5th April to view the deceased body and they were rejected to do.
Among however responded to a section of Members of Parliament who were yesterday honoring and paying tribute to the late that she viewed the body on behalf of all MPs.
“I have already viewed the body on behalf of Parliament and even dressed him in Parliament attire,” Among noted
Meanwhile this did not go well with the ex-wife to the late Winnie Amoo who came out blasted the government and asked government to open her ex-husband's casket for public viewing.
In Uganda when someone dies, mourners are expected to view the body. In the case of Oulanyah, his body has not been viewed since his body arrived in the country.
“What is a wake or vigil without viewing? She wrote on her Facebook page on Tusday at 8:00pm.
Amoo said that people should be allowed to view Oulanyah’s body because he had close relatives and friends.
“No one has seen him since he 'so called' landed. What kind of life is this we are living? And why are the MPs OK with it, we must wake up Uganda,” she wrote.
Oulanyah died on March 20 at a Seattle Hospital in the US where he had gone for specialized treatment.
After the Kololo prayers today (Wednesday), Oulanyah’s body will be airlifted to Lalogi, Omoro District, for family members, relatives and friends to convey their last respects before burial on Friday, which was declared a public holiday.
