Police in Lira city are holding two men for allegedly selling firearms in an open market.
In the report, police said that the duo were arrested after a tip-off from town dwellers that they deal in firearms.
It is said that two men in plain clothes believed to be security people raided Accurate Motor Spare Shop on Bala Road.
Speaking to media, a witness said one of shop attendants suspected danger, he threatened to shoot the uninvited guests and used the advantage to flee the scene.
According to Mr. Milton Odongo, the Lira Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the shop was raided after they received intelligence information indicating that a businessman identified as Andrew Agena was selling guns at his shop.
“He is suspected of having two Sub-machine guns and four pistols. We have recovered one pistol but other guns are still missing." He said
Mr. Odongo however, said the prime suspect took off but they managed to arrest two suspects who were found in the same shop were arrested to aid with investigations.
The RDC said they were informed that thi man has been trading in guns and fake money in the city.
''There have been public concerns over the illegal possession of guns in Lira City by some business persons," he said.
